Abstract:
Many successful foreign language departments have become multifaceted academic units and offer courses and programs in a wide variety of disciplines. Technology has come to figure prominently as one of these facets. Policy statements by the Modern Language Association and the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages call for the recognition of the research effort involved in technological development projects when those projects include substantial research components. Projects that appropriately take relevant research factors into account not only advance our understanding of the field but also add a new dimension to effective teaching practices that can have considerable professional and practical value for foreign language departments.
