Abstract:
RE-WORD is a method for practicing reading skills with the aid of a word processor. Through the use of functions such as delete, move, copy and print, students can practice a whole range of skills. The method was tried out at Tel Aviv University in the spring semester of 1986/1987. An attitude questionnaire was administered to the students at the end of the semester. It revealed, among other findings, that although most of the students liked working with the computer, there were significant differences among the classes taught by different instructors. Even at such an early stage in its implementation, RE-WORD seems to offer pedagogical, psychological and pragmatic advantages over traditional CALI and to constitute a promising solution to some of its problems.
