Book: Teachers Reflecting on Boredom in the Language Classroom
Chapter: Researching L2 Boredom in L2 Learning and Teaching
Blurb:
Chapter Four provides a brief overview of studies targeting different aspects of student and teacher boredom, focusing on main research directions, methodological issues and actual findings. The first part will be devoted to empirical investigations in the field of educational psychology, (e.g., Daniels et al., 2015; Malkovsky et al., 2012; Shaw et al., 1996). The second part will be dedicated to studies in the field of SLA which have been both quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods in nature and have focused much more on student rather than teacher boredom (e.g., Kormos & Csizér, 2014; Kruk, 2019; Peacock, 1997; Yazdanmehr, Elahi Shirvan, & Saghafi, 2021). The urgent need for further research investigating the causes of and solutions to boredom from the perspective of the teacher will also be emphasized.
