Abstract:

The Archive of Contemporary Music (ARC) in New York has announced a cooperative partnership with Columbia University to integrate the resources of the archive into arts programming and other educational and scholarly activities at
the university. The ARC is a not-for-profit archive, music library and research centre located in New York City. It collects, preserves and provides information on the popular music of all cultures and races throughout the world from 1950 to the present. The Archive was founded in 1985 by its current director, B. George and the late David Wheeler and currently consists of 2 million sound recordings and approximately 3 million photographs, books, press kits, videos, memorabilia and related ephemera, making it the largest popular music collection in the United States. The
collection continues to be enlarged by donations from record companies, related businesses and private individuals.
